Android App Icon Sizes and Adaptive Icon Guide
A practical guide to Android app icon assets, adaptive icons, foreground layers, backgrounds, and Play Store usage.
Android app icons have two jobs: they need to look good in the Play Store, and they need to survive the many launcher masks and shapes used across Android devices. That is why adaptive icons matter.
An adaptive icon usually separates the artwork into a foreground layer and a background layer. Android can then apply different masks while keeping the icon consistent.
What to prepare

- Avoid fine text and thin strokes.
- Make the foreground work on multiple background shapes.
- Test the icon as a circle, rounded square, and squircle.
- Keep the Play Store version consistent with the installed launcher icon.
